Cartoon Network has put up some Bobb'e Says clips online, so now I can finally show you a comparison/contrast concerning the logo work I did for the show and what they ended up using.So, pay attention to the second row. These were done for the pilot episode, and those were the four sections dividing it up. Now here are some screen shots from the random clips they have online:I think it's fairly safe to say they are using my idea/concept/graphics. I don't know if they will be using the ones I did specifically for the first episode, but I guess we'll just have to Tune In @ 8 E/P on August 19th for the Series Premier of Bobb'e Says!!!!

It's the post you've all been waiting for! Unfortunately, I think you might be mildly disappointed. Just kidding. You will be BLOWN AWAY. So, in no particular order:

I did the logo for this game. Pretty sweet, right?

So, that's the bulk of the things I did. There were a lot of little things I did, like adding stuff to already existing files, but that's not very interesting.

EDIT: ALSO, check out the scooby doo movie webpage on Cartoon Network, because I did the year book. Not the quiz, just the front and open parts of the year book. And I sneaked (snuk? snooked?) a picture of me in there as well. Internet famedom! Who knew it would be that easy.

Yeah yeah, I know, I know, update by blog, blah blah blah. Look, I've been busy, ok? Well, ok, sort of busy. But still.
Look! I have things on Cartoon Network now!
Except for the left image that I circled, I guess, because that was the template I was working off of. But I did do the one on the right. I know, it's not that exciting, but it's there. Every week those two spots will be updated with two new user games. I just took a screen shot of an in-game moment (deceptively more difficult than you would think) and changed the text depending on the user's name. Yaaay.

Claxtech's Pixel Portrait

Claxtech® recently contacted me about making a new children's product to be featured in their new KlaxKids™ reading magazine. After countless hours of micromanaging and think tanks, this is what we produced. Or should I say, I produced, because I was the brain behind the whole thing. I probably shouldn't be posting this here, because Claxtech® can be pretty straitlaced when it comes to all things legal, but I'm taking the chance.

Anyways, they should be appearing in the next issue of KlaxKids™, so be sure to check it out.

I know it is annoying randomly posting every now and then, but I'm just in sort of a ruff patch because of the amount of school work coming at me.

Hello folks! I am updating after a longish time.
Please don't get mad at me! I took a break during winter break, and it's just been kinda crazy since I got back.
First in the order of business... check out what I got at the record store!That's right! Underworld "1st" record! As an 80s' pop band! Wowie! Plus it's a vinyl so... even awesomer. Karl and Rick look so cool on the back cover.

So this past Wednesday, the school of art had this thing called a charrett (or something like that, I don't know exactly how it's spelled) where everyone makes or does something under the category "in flight". You could interpret it any way you wanted. As long as it was done by Wednesday, and there you would present it.
SO, for Wednesday, two other guys in my graphic design class and I decided to do a motion capture session for Top Gun: The Musical: In CGI. Basically, me and another guy (greg) dressed up in a tight black outfit, with ping pong balls attached to certain parts of out body. Like so:
Except the balls weren't glowing, because they were ping pong balls. And the other guy (christian) was our 'coach' and would yell and instruct us on certain moves to do while music from Top Gun played on a crappy tape deck. He has an acting background, so he is good at doing things like that.
So I thought it was going to be a kinda small thing... like...get in, dance a little, get out... but because christian is christian, that didn't really happen. As greg and I finished getting our attire on, we could hear screaming coming from the atrium bellow. And since christian has a pretty recognizable yelling voice (and a loud one at that), and he had been in character since he arrived at the art building, we knew it was him. Gobs of people were lining the inner edge of the art building, on all levels, looking to see what all the hubbub was about. So he certainly had an audience. AKA the whole art building. He was yelling stuff about where we were (because he hadn't arrived downstairs yet) and was pointing at people, yell-asking if they wanted to take our place. He was yelling for quite a while. I took off my glasses before I arrived on the bottom floor, mostly because I didn't want to see everyone staring at me.
So we finally arrived downstairs, and christian (posing as his character, sebastian) welcomed us to our audience, and there was a lot of clapping and cheering. So he explained what we were doing, and started the music, and we did some dancing. Meanwhile, he would stop us, or correct our dancing (yelling mostly), or get us to mimic him. There was some solo dancing as well... and some audience participation. And for the final song, we all did dancing together, and for the grand finale, flew around like planes, and flew out in a line out the other side of the building, very dramatically and into a sun set. Of sorts. And when I say dancing, I really mean "dancing", because, I mean, can y0u really imitate how a plane would move or interact in CGI? The whole thing lasted about 15 minutes or so, I believe.
Anyways, it was out of this world weird, and a little surreal. I know some people that took video, I'll see if I can post them soonish. And pictures, there are some funny pictures as well. But as I was in the thing, I don't have any myself.
So that was my thrill for the week.

Also I made some fonts via Fontstruct, and two were picked as top picks by the staff! Yay! You can find them here, or on my website. CHECK IT OUUUUUUUT.

So Wednesday I walked into Type class and I was confronted with a dark room, strange music, a projector on, and two people reflecting the projected images on the wall with mirrors. And people in masks.
I think the videos are best viewed without sound, so you can concentrate on the colors and forms, and suspend yourself in that reality.

Here are some pixel experimentations. I was looking at how the sprites in Chrono Trigger were done, but I didn't blatantly rip off any certain part. Except for the girl's face part, basically the eyes/nose/mouth-ish area. But that's it. Promise.

More Chemical Brothers CD Stuff

Just a quick bit about the Chemical Brothers We Are The Night cover.
Turns out the CD was based, painfully obviously, on a print by artist Herbert Bayer.Herbert Bayer

This was the "work in progress" cover that was released before the final version came out. I think the similarities are pretty obvious.

OH WAIT. That's a picture I took. I don't know where the first image is from, since I saved it and went on my merry way, but the similarity is striking.

Speaking of striking similarities... another The Chemical Brothers album that looks suspiciously like another piece of art. From their most recent release:
And the found image...Hmmmm.... Unless the second one was actually made after the first, because I don't really know where it came from. Oh well.

Also, this next image is just kind of funny, because last year I had to do a project in speech class where we released a press kit on an item or event of our choice. We chose Nike Dunks. Also, because it was a press kit, we included two ads as well. Although this idea was never finished, it was one of my initial ideas. We were talking about how there are so many different types of Nike Dunks, and wouldn't it be cool if we took slivers from a bunch of different types of Nike Dunks and put them together as one shoe? But we didn't have enough shoes at a high enough picture quality to do it. Anyways, I saw this and I was like, "Hey, that was my idea!"
But of course I have no proof.

Psych Vs. Dexter

This isn't really a post about art, but more of a comparison between two shows I've recently watched. Those shows being Psych and Dexter.
For anyone that doesn't know, Psych is about a guy that is hyper-observant, and pretends to be psychic because he is so observant. Dexter is about a serial-killer that works for the Miami police department, and pretends to be normal. And the more I think about it, the more they seem like the same show. Here are some similarities I've come across.

1. Both shows feature a mid-30's, white male. They even sort of look similar. Well... as similar as white guys can I guess. Ok, so maybe that's sort of a stretch.

2. Both shows feature the main characters having false identities. Shawn appears to be psychic, but is really a normal guy. Dexter appears to be a normal guy, but is actually (spoiler alert!) a serial killer.

3. Both have side-kick-ish close friends. For Dexter it is his sister Deb, and for Shawn it is his friend Gus. They are closest with really only that one person.

4. Both shows feature a prominent father figure, in which

Their relationship with is shown through flashbacks
These flashbacks tie in with what is currently happening in the episode
Feature how their current close friend equaled into their life as a kid
Usually only featured their father and present day close friend
Their fathers were also well respected police officers

5. Both work for the police department under false pretenses.

6. Both shows feature one police officer that suspects them as fraud, but for whatever reason, no one listens to them. These people would be Sergeant James Doakes in Dexter, and Carlton Lassiter from Psych.

And also, recently I've been told that the show Death Note also has the same premise of Dexter. But I haven't seen that yet so...

Both shows are good anyhow, I just thought it was odd how many similarities there were between them. But then again, there are always similarities between things if you look...

Some new... stuff

I haven't really been too busy this summer, but I'll post a couple things.

So first, my karate instructor is starting this new thing called Kangarate (Kangaroo + Karate... get it?) and he wanted me to do the logo design. Because I'm in graphic design and all. So here's the spot video thing they did...

And the comps I came up with. I really haven't spent that much time on these because I suppose I've been a bit busy working. It's just a couple, but I thought I would share I guess?
So... simple things going on here. The first one I just added an extra ear to the g, like... it's a kangaroo. Ha...ha... eh. Then in the second one, I made it a belt. Maybe a combination of the two in the future? Too much?
And then I did a little thing with hand-made text. Well... as hand-made as being done on the computer can be.

Fear not, loyal readers, I have not abandoned this blog. I've just been under some time constraints and projects and finals and such. I had to haul my paintings from the art building, which was pretty awful. Because they are very heavy. Very, very heavy. Especially if you have to haul them from the art building to my dorm. :(
Here are some pictures of the paintings I did, some you may or may not have seen before.The last one here I was trying to emulate the style of Francis Bacon (not Sir Francis Bacon). I thought it would be interesting. I'm not actually that tortured inside.

Also, here are my calendar pages for the final design project. It just had to be a calendar that showed the concept of time somehow:
Here's a sort of awful picture of my drawing class final drawing. It's pretty big, so taking a picture of it is kinda hard. This was taken before I finished it, so there are a couple unfinished areas. It's like, 15 feet across. I don't know. It's long. Let's just leave it at that.

I've got most of my portfolio stuff together...Which has cost me the use of my table, presently in shambles. Portfolio review will be tough, but at least I have Domo and Companion Cube to comfort me .

Oh, post-spring break posts are always depressing. What with being back at school. :(
Anyways. Here's some stuff I've been doing!
First, Type Cube! We made a cube in graphic design! And put images and type on it! It was so exciting!

And a drawing I'm working on in drawing... I'm stringing together multiple sheets of paper, different types of paper... trying to make one big thing out of multiple little things. Although the multiple little things are actually kinda bigish at the same time.
And in painting I'm doing a painting of Daft Punk. Although I'm about to make it look a bit more abstract. I laid down a quick layer before I went he abstract route, and thought it looked pretty nice. The painting is 4'x4'. Ish.

Website and Chemical Brother Connection Correction (also: tongue twisters?)

And, After purusing the webz for a little, I found an addendum to the previous post on the Chemical Brothers' album cover. Evidently it may be a symbol of revolution, or something.(Edit: Main text translates to "All the press is toxic." So... maybe not quite revolution, but sort of?)
Looks familiar, no? Well it's a really old print. And it's in French, so I don't totally know what it was for. This was found in the comment section of Sleevage, for that Chemical Brothers album
Also, the Justice cover is actually a homage to the cover of T.Rex's Electric Warrior cover. Compare:The T.Rex cover being from 1971. Weird, right? It's so old, yet it still looks fresh even today. Neato.

EPIC POST: Some recent drawings... paintings... graphic design...snow!

First, mostly importantly... it snowed! A good amount! I was fun! Graphic design was postponed for a whole ten minutes!

Here are some drawings I'm working on in drawing class. The first one is a collage with water color and ink pen, and the second is a drawing of a collage with ink pen, ink, sharpie, black acrylic, and charcoal pencil.
And here's my painting from painting class. It's near done-ish, I just have to flush out a few things, redo maybe the side of his head, put some more detail in....

Personality Pak

So here's the stickers my partner and I used for our "Personality Pak". The point of these is that you can put these stickers on things you own, and they will attract people from these demographics, and want to be your friend. And then you'll meet new and exciting people! Yay! I did the astronaut one, while Eric did the other two, as you can see the styles are quite different. But not necessarily in a bad way, of course. I don't know what it is, but I can't help but feel proud when I make a connection that would be otherwise not evident to others. During drawing class on Monday, we were looking at some collage artists, and a painting by Carrie Moyer came up, and I noticed a symbol that she used. This isn't the specific painting, because I couldn't find it, so here's another one of her works (circled for clarity):
And I thought, "Wait a second, that looks familiar..."
So, I don't know who is stealing from who (I think the designer of the cover might be doing the stealing...) or if it was mutual (I couldn't find anything... or haven't yet at least) but I thought it was strange, non the less. Plus, she also has a painting from the same series called "Believe," and on that same CD, The Chemical Brothers have a song also called "Believe". So that's weird too. I feel like I should look into this more.

I recently (like, yesterday) did a 'collaboration' of sorts with J3_Concepts, aka Jared Nickerson.
I supplied the drawing:And Jared made a vector drawing of it. In really great detail. I mean, look at the hair! Meticulous.
So awesome! I look forward to doing things like this in the future. It was certainly a surprise, but, I mean, a chance to work with J3? I'll take it any day.

So after design after redesign, I think it's more or less done. At least I don't think it's going to change that much if I tinker with it more:And some interesting things I found this week:
1. A never ending website. Some of the things repeat, I just don't now how often. For all I know there could be a secret if you go far enough.
2. A neat new phone. Slick design not by apple? Who would have thought.
3. A couple neat book covers. Aren't they neat? They are so neat.
4. Hey, looks at these gross legs. Wait a second...
5. Did you hear about Aqua-dots? The children just can't get enough of them.

Peace skulls and fake Nike ads

I did some redesigns of the peace sign skull that my teacher told me to simplify (because I'm just sooo artsy)(or to artsy).The skull sorta kinda throws the balance of the composition off a little but... oh well. Printed off on a larger sheet and balanced with black or white seems to balance it more.

And I finished a mock of one of the Nike ads for my speech group. It is for a back to school ad for Nike Dunks, a shoe that comes in a million different styles, and these shoes are designed according to a composition notebook, a Crayola crayon box, and an Elmer's Glue bottle. So you see, I did it on a piece of notebook paper, because, like, it's about school (clever, no?), plus it's doodled like it was actually drawn by a STUDENT who goes to SCHOOL! How cool is that! Plus, it gets street thug kids excited about school, and our nation needs that.
And now for some interesting things I stumbled upon during the week:
1. A girl that has anteaters for pets. I want.
2. Wallpaper that interacts with its environment. I also want.
3. A magazine cover with 140 subliminal ways to die. Actually pretty weird. And hard to see.
4. Ruby Tuesday and Applebee's both get new corporate identities. Guess which one doesn't have super obnoxious ads?

Halloween!!

First and most importantly, this was my costume from Halloween:It was pretty fun to wear, and even a few people knew who I was! How cool is that? It's super cool.

Here's the outlines I'm going to be linoleuming for my prints. I'm down to 10 people (from 12) and it's going to have the text "(a few) Professors (of art)" And this isnt' the final layout, just the individual squares:Aaaaand in graphic design we're revisiting our cliche symbols, and so I did a few re-redesigns. None of which my teacher liked, so I'm gunna do some more work.
The first one is just a redo of my original, and the other two are just new iterations of the same idea.

So, I'm not doing very good with consistent updates. Sorry. But here's some drawings I've been doing in drawing class. The last two are a bit creepy. You have been warned:

So I got this new audio program (well, it's a demo, but still) and I'm having a GREAT time with it. It's super fun. If you're wondering why I haven't gotten to my homework yet, well this is why.
I did a few little things, these two are using a drums loop from The Chemical Brothers' Blockin Rockin' Beats. The first one uses a sample from Coldplay's Clocks, and the second from a second Chemical Brother song called Marvo Ging. It's pretty much just those to things looped, and I went crazy making them glitchy, because I really like that.

I also tried to reproduce a couple of mash-ups that I heard and wanted to do. The first one was a remix of a remix (confusing, no?) that used the main vocals from Justice's D.A.N.C.E. and the main riff from Daft Punk's Aerodynamic. I pretty much just laid the riff over the D.A.N.C.E. track, so I suppose it's not terrible exciting.

And then at the Daft Punk concert I went to this summer, they overlaid the song Face to Face with Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger (both Daft Punk songs, I mean, they're not going to play other people's songs at their concert, right?) So I made a loop (so it's short)(plus some intensional glitching):

And then I made a little ditty from this old keyboard that's been lying (laying?) around my house forever. It has a couple cool sounds, but really a lot of them really suck. Aaaand I used the new music program to add in some jumps, glitches, and stops that I've grown to like.

Also, here's some prints I did for my relief class. I like how they turned out, especially the first one. The second one is actually on a sheet twice the size of the first. Rather large, I must say.

Yeah, so fall break was busy, as expected, as were my weekends, as were the weekdays. Big surprise, right? Right.
So I spent a good weekend working on this:
Not the product itself, but the carving of the woodblock to produce it. And I spent another six hours today doing prints. On mega sized paper

So I got my Pelican-animal-object-translation project back. Here's what it looked like, more or less:
And my evaluation:So, 3.0 out of 4.0 isn't so bad I guess. I suppose the part that really got me counted off was my lack of experimentation on the experimentals. But then again, my teacher wasn't being entirely clear how far we could go in experimenting. Oh well.
And now some drawings from the past couple of days in drawing class. We've been drawing from life, classmates, and as a early development, a model! That actually came in! Most of these are pretty quick-ish. Probably ten or so minutes of average.
And, in the surprise of the century, the model all of a sudden got naked. I mean, I wasn't expecting that when we drew someone nude for there to be a big hullabaloo, but a Warning of some sort would have been nice. Even a "Hey, we're going to draw the model nude now." But no, UT:
1) Takes no prisoners.
2)Leaves nothing to the imagination.
3)Gives no warning.

And of all the places he had to pose, he had to face his genitals toward me. I mean, come on. But luckily they were mostly in shadow, so I had no obligation to, well, draw them that much, or anything. Hurray.

Here's some quick (3-10 min.) sketches we did in drawing class. We were drawing from life (classmates, because our model didn't show up)
And a photo I took and turned into a wallpaper with my new camera (many thanks/kudos out to ma' sister!) The only bad thing with the camera is that if there is any darkish shadow, it gets filled with a ridiculous amount of noise that is next to impossible to get rid of. So being artsy photo-y is a bit harder to do.

4) get sound levels on different stuff to be good

So, I've been a little busy with school work and such. Which is part of the reason I've been a little lax on updates. Anyways. Perusing the internets, I found this image:
Upon which I found out who made it. It was a computer guy who made it using some sort of fractal program. So I emailed him asking if I could, say, vector it and turn it into a wallpaper, and release it. And he said sure! But he just said to give him credit. How cool is that?

PLUS!!! Two new song-things! I've decided if I ever get serious with a music career (i.e. semi-professional recording/studio time), I'd go with the name "Lemniscate". Because I thought it has sort of a neat underlying meaning.

Another Peace Design and a Fake Ad Consultancy Logo

Ok, so I messed with my peace skull some more... made it simpler. No shadows, less skull features...Now, as to if it's better...?

And I did a little logo for the fake ad consultancy group thing I'm in for public speaking.I wanted a named that used a latin phrase that started with 'ad', because we're an ad agency, so it would only make sense. So I chose the phrase "ad rem", which translates as "to the matter." Also, taken separately, ad stands for the ad part of the business, and rem can be interpreted as the REM cycle. Also, "ad rem" also sort of looks like "a drem" which sort of looks like "a dream". All of that I incorporated into the slogan. Now as to whether or not all that is apparent... it probably isn't. But it's the thought that counts.

Peace Skull and a Portrait

So just a couple things. I did a quick portrait:And a more 'refined' version of my peace skull:I don't know if this might be too complicated, because of the shadow or not. I tried to make the peace sign apparent, but without loosing the face of the skull. It's definitely a fine balance. But I've probably been looking at it too long to see if you would be able to tell the peace sign is there. Urrhgggg..

So, after a two or so day learning curve, I have figured out, more or less, the synthesizer I downloaded (legally!). So here's a little ditty I did. It's only about two minutes. I'm just... so proud of myself for making drums loops, and melody that is actually a bit bearable to listen to, unlike much of dance/electronica. And by that I mean the aesthetics aren't completely terrible. At least I don't think so. Here's a screenshot of it:Confusing, no?

Daft Punk Vs. Justice/Simian - Digital Friends

First week of School!

Ah... so, first week of school, and already two projects done in graphic design. Since I don't have my first one (50 Ways of Seeing), I'll share my most recent one. We had to choose a cliche symbol from a list (peace sign, addition sign, wine glass figure, tree, dove, American flag, and Mickey Mouse ears) and create six or more designs under a certain criteria. I chose the peace sign, and we had to make at least two in which the material used was different, two in which the perspective or orientation was different, and two in which there was a physical alteration. All of these changes, keeping in mind to try and make a fresh view on a cliche symbol. So here were mine (clicking it to enlarge would probably help):The first two are probably my favorite. I thought I was being so clever using the negative space of the peace sign as a skull. The forth one, ideally, was going to be made from blood, but as I didn't really have any at hand, I used paint.

Also, submitted another wallpaper to customize. Not really wildly popular, but I didn't think it turned out too bad. It was a nice photo I took nonetheless.Wallpaper: Plunge
